Default Can't get it running right

I have tried and tried... the car is a 72 LT-1, currently it has an MSD distributor & box, and an Edelbrock 1407. I have optimized the air/fuel mix with a vacuum guage... I have installed the light blue springs in the MSD, the mechanical advance is all-in at 2,500 rpm. I have tried initial timing between 12 and 14 (total of 51-53). At higher rpms the car seems to run fine. at lower rpms I get a sluggishness or stumble. If I punch the gas with the clutch in from idle I get a stumble, it doesn't go up nice & smooth. Also get a hesitation when switching gears and going back to gas, ususally 2nd & 3rd.

Any ideas - I am about to give in and take it to a local shop.

I may try the lighter springs to bring the mechanical advance in sooner - any thoughts?

Perhaps you do not have a timing problem......have you tried larger accelerator pump nozzles, or other tuning of the carb?....many variables, you might be too rich at cruise with the Edelbrock....the carb manual that comes with the 1407 addresses the symptoms you describe and gives solutions...
