Default A/F Sensor

I am looking to put an air fuel sensor in my exhaust. The problem is that i have hooker side pipes.I was told that the sensor should be about 12" away from the head. Is this true? Can i put it in the collector for an accurate reading? Where would the most accurate place to put this sensor?

you mean an O2 sensor or lambda sensor. The sensor needs to be as close to the head as possible, reading off as many pipes as possible. This usually means it's mounted in or close to the collector. If you have a catalytic converter it's usually mounted just forward of the cat con because the cat produces tremendous heat and this helps speed up sensor warmup and keep it warmed up for continuous closed loop oepration.

Just put it in the collector, the thread is M18x1.5

Also it's mounted position is important too. Weld the bung so that the position of the sensor body is between the 10 and 2 oclock position. Best I could get with mine was at the 3 oclock position. The reason for this has to due with moisture. You can mount it farther away from the head but you then must use a heated (3 or 4 wire) type sensor.

Try and get a "wideband" setup if you can afford it. They are more accurate. You can do a "search" to find out why.
