I saw that but I thought it was a little high for him to have it running.

Clever...very clever.

Mine used to be close to that. Maybe he has a good pump and a sensative gauge.

In fact, maybe he has a lot of sensative gauges from the look of his temp too.

you guys are killing me while I have a good ice cold drink in hand waiting for some action from the so called storm that is suppose to arrive. Got today and tomorrow off work....but worked from home today about half the day. Got cabin fever already really bad....but condo party starting up here on the beach in about an hour so at least I will get my attention diverted a little. Thanks for the help...I guess at this point it sounds easier to just replace the thermostat vs. getting a heat laser gun. My car has only twice in the last 3,000 miles since July 1st has seen the needle barely inch up above that hash mark. I know my feet are one hell of a lot cooler now.

btw...I extra topped off the fuel this morning since the storm was coming and by the grace of the vette gods looking down upon me I found a gas station without a line right down the street from the house. Now the vette sits peacefully tucked away all covered up and secured for the storm. If had a house...you can sure the hell bet I would have been using this time more wisely ripping out the entire interior and laying down some fresh dynomant and nuprene which is at the top of my list to redo the entire interior.

edit...and I have a new gas tank/sender unit/etc.....so maybe my car is just a little over sensitive now-a-days...but that is okay because I am going to beat her into submission during the next Corvette Series Challenge @ Moroso in Sept. Went this past Aug for my first time and had a blast.

I was cruising at about 70~90mph this morning and probably did not have the car in 6th gear as I took the pic and I run 20W-50 oil. Idle is around 35~40 psi.

Deng, your oil pressure sucks bob. My guages are a little more accurate than the older ones but my oil pressure is usually around 60 - 70 psi when it's cold and over 2000 rpm. At idle it generally sits at the same 35 - 40 psi.

Not quite so
The gauge is 33 years old
I was at the local Vette shop and I hooked his gauge up that he uses for testing for new builds and it read around 35 lbs at idle and about 60 lbs at 2,500.
I even tried and old Sun gauge I had laying around ind it was right on with the Pro gauge I had tried at the shop.
I dread getting behind the cluster but some day I'll fix it.

We recently replaced the radiator to a DeWitts and nothing more dropping the temps on the gauge from about the 210 mark to where you see it now just below the hash mark.

btw...it is a 69 L46 original AC car that has had the motor rebuilt 13,000 miles ago. Trying to figure out if somebody stuck in a 160* or 180* thermostat.

My 72 LT-1 reads just slightly higher (not much though) my needle lays just beside the hash mark (on the low side)... is my temp to low? Thanks Muddy...what is the advantage of running a higher temp? Thanks!!!

That comment was CERTAINLY uncalled for...
Keep on saturating this forum with your 60 posts per day of
About a third of your posts are retractions because you have no idea what you are talking about 70% of the time.

You have an answer for just about subject that is posted and most, of it is BS

By the way... where are the pics of all your cars you build, or at least the Corvette you supposedly own?

I can hear it now......Big time car builder with no camera, or Its on loan or its broken ect:

You own a garage and still have 15 hours a day to spend spewing your incorrect blather on this board....Good luck staying in business.

The getting laid comment is what set me off.........If you want to stay here and continue to pollute the forum I suggest you watch what you say to certain people...Especially ME.... because as of that last comment I have lost what little, and I mean little, respect I had for you.

Luckily, I don't care what you do or don't care about me.

A: You started that.
B: It was a JOKE.
C: I don't care either way.

Thanks for your time.

My guage reads just like yours. My laser temp shows about 185-190 on the hose out at the thermostat housing. Reads about 10-15 degrees lower at the lower radiator hose. I have the DeWitts aluminum as well which dropped the temp by about 5-10 degrees. Wasn't bad before the new radiator, but replaced it because of a leaky core.

I have been told that you want a good operating temp to achieve good gas mileage.

But I have also been told that you need your carb temperature as cool as possible to keep from losing horses...heat at the carb will rob horsepower.

Perhaps some of the experts will chime in...got the info off of another Chevy forum where a lot of racers hang.

By the way Muddywaters, your bezel looks great. Did you refinish the original? What paint did you use?

OOPs....Question should be towards Carpedm..

Hey carpedm
It looks like only the battery and the oil are the original Green Face gauges..Its tough to tell with a photo.

Did all the original gauges survive?

I have read in a thread several months ago that the first mark is supposed to be 180 degrees. Of course, we know the next mark is 210.
With my c/b rad my temp runs in almost the same spot yours is in and I assumed it was about 170. I really need to use the temp gun at work and check it but it certainly has to be on the cool side there. My oil pressure runs 75 to 80 lbs. anytime it is running above 2,000 RPM and 40 at idle. I agree the guages are probably not exact but they should be accurate enough to let you know if a problem exists.
I want to connect some extra guages to the engine at some point to see what differences there are, if any. The DeWitts rad is definately doing a good job for you.

And Durango Boy, although your participation is appreciated, your remark towards Bob was uncalled for and you owe him an apology. We have arguments and differences of opinion all the time on the forum but we still respect each others right to their opinion and do not make degrading comments. I would like to think you respect this forum, its members and yourself too much to be rude to another member. We are all here to learn from each other and share information we have for everyone's benefit. We may even agree to disagree but that is where it should end! We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by making remarks that don't belong here. I know you understand what I mean!
