Dont worry Paul...Muddy's bezel is perfect too so Im sure you can ask him..
That's what I love about this forum, when reading you always spot something that looks better than what you have..great, now I know two guys whose bezels look better than mine.
Bob, Muddy was asking about the benefits of running a higher temp. Your a pretty knowledgeable guy, what's the benefit...sorry for hijacking the thread.
With my c/b rad my temp runs in almost the same spot yours is in and I assumed it was about 170.
Mine runs the same and when I hit it with the temp gun on the stat housing it reads 171...however, when I point at the water passages of the intake manifold it reads 210. I would agree though that the mark represents 180.
I think this temp is a little low and it started when I installed a Robershaw high flow stat. This was after installing a DeWitts alum radiator. While the radiator install gave me about 20 degrees, the high flow stat allowed the alum rad to work even better. for the DeWitt radiator.
We have arguments and differences of opinion all the time on the forum but we still respect each others right to their opinion and do not make degrading comments.
This is all fine. I will gladly, happily, and voluntarily apologize to Bob. But...since I have started here, he has done nothing but condescend on me on a variety of subjects...constantly poking at my age and experience compared to his. THAT IS NOT RESPECT. How am I expected to respect someone that does NOT extend the same courtecy to me. Has anyone asked him to apologize to me for any of the things he has said to me?
excellent....I guess that is a little more comforting in that others have temps similar to mine although mine does seem to be a little bit on the cooler side, but probably not 160* as I once thought.
btw...the bezel is a very good fitting plastic reproduction bezel that is desgined to fit a newer style radio (CD Player). I bought it off ebay and the ad said 68-82 but I think it must be for a later year C3 in that there is not a separator between the seat belts & door ajar lights on each side. Also it is plastic composite material and I somewhat miss the original metal look. I will probably buy a cheap metal reproduction off ebay and cut it to fit a CD player and then sell this one. funny thing is that when I was taking out the old bezel...it is actually broken into two separate pieces near the top AC vents but I swear you could never tell a difference until you unbolted the parts.
Also...I have very limited auto mechanic skills (but learning fast through your help) let alone knowledge of the vette and what is original vs. a reproduction. I feel almost like an archielogists in that I am discovering the secrets/history behind this car almost weekly since when I bought it there was very little history and I have done my best to try and track down the previous owners.....so in summary, I have no idea which gauges are original vs. reproductions. All I know is that the clock was converted to an electric clock and all the gauges seem to function accordingly.

The 69' had all Green face gauges... I couldnt tell because of the flash in the pic
Even if they are all green it doesnt mean they are original and, of course, it doesnt mean they arent.
My clock has been repaired and all the rest of my gauges (other than the speedometer) are original, which means nothing to me...... as long as they work!
Your gauge cluster looks great !
mine has a new alum rad and the readings are about the same when the air temp is around 75 to 80 looks good to me how many miles on your engine? a/c on runs about 10 degrees hotter. oil pressure is the same.
I would say you have no thermostat installed with it running that cool.
My 76 runs hotter than that with a 160 in it with the tempature outside
about 100 degrees. My old guage seems to be pretty accurate,
with a 180 degree stat it sits just to the left of 200.

Thanks Bob Actually Bob, ( and I reply modestly) my guages and bezel do look pretty handsome...heck, it should... I had the whole unit on my desk here, (office) for about three months! I tore it all apart, cleaned, polished, and painted everything. Needless to say, looks pretty smart going down the road letting me know...all is well

I can relate to the "Joanne" thing
Unfortionally my "Joanne" died 6 years ago at the age of 36
Her name was Melissa and she always supported me in everything I did through the 15 years we had together.
No getting greasy though....
But she could drive a 435 HP stick almost as good as most guys I know
My 76 with a DeWitt radiator and fresh 383 running a 180* thermostat reads a tick higher, just the width of the needle past the left mark if crusing a 60mph 80* weather. At 90* temperature crusing at 80mph it went almost as high as 210 degrees.
If you think it's running a little too cool, pick up another themostat and change it. It certainly would be cheaper than buying one of those temerature guns.

About twenty minutes and $7 to change it. Take another cruise and see what difference it makes.
