Since it's going to rain this weekend in NJ I thought I would pull my steering colunm and fix my ignition. This is what happens, the car car starts and turns off ok, but I can only turn the car off in reverse and I know you are supposed to be able to turn it off in any gear just not be able to take the key out also have no acceries on the ignition. The vet is a 71 with a 4sp. thanks in advance Gerry

If you have an ohm meter/multimeter I would start by testing the switch
If it tests out ok then it's an adjustment
Remember, the switch can be cleaned with contact cleaner or better yet, Deoxit
Both are avail from Radio shack
Good luck
It shouldnt be too tough

Thanks all took out the colunm adjusted the switch all works like it should.Car starts and turns off, turns off in any gear but key does not come out unless in reverse and acc works. One problem down 2 to go.Thanks again Gerry
I dont know about the earlier models but on the 73' thats the only way the key will come out
Its a locking feature
Once the car is in reverse and the key is out the shifter cannot be moved.
This is a great feature
Say the car is parked with the T Tops off, its impossible for somebody to walk by and take it out of gear and watch it roll away
