I have the Sweet Thunder 2-1/2" system with Hooker Sidepipes. They sound awesome. My wife hates them, so this proves that they sound good.

I didn't notice any difference between the Maxflows and Spiral Turbos. Mine is a 350 HP small block. From the back of the car at idle, they have that big block rumble!

Not to hijack the thread as I am very interested in Hooker Sidepipe mufflers. I have a 598 and just had the headers coated by Jet Hot and don't want to strangle my motor. I'm just wondering if any of you have run them without mufflers? Is it unbearable or just offensively loud. I'm used to Harleys so the question is...is it bearable?

Most if not all published dyno test data is based on highly modified big cube engines. The baffles perform very well on a 502, not much difference to open pipes. Now, that's great.... but will a 350SB benefit from the baffles as much ?
I have yet not seen any dyno comparison between glasspacks, reverse flow, chambered inserts and baffles on a stock or mildly modified SB......
When I bought my JCL baffles, they told me that they did a dyno test on a ZZ4 and picked up 12 HP over the Hooker reverse flow mufflers.

That's what I'm talking about - on the same engine, the difference between the maxflows and the baffles is probably 2-3 HP, if there is any.....

Open it is! My neighbor cranks his Harley every Saturday morning about 6am going on a ride. I think I'll fire off about 6am Sunday so he's not late for church.

Here is one of the best threads I have seen on this http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1021019

My take away was that the side pipes are an excellent choice if you are going to be operating at 6,500 rpms and below (the VAST majority of people).

One personal note on side pipe loudness: I had been leaning heavily into getting the sidepipes, so I rode with a local gentleman who had a set on his 427. He did have the short 'purple hornie' mufflers. I can tell you that after a 10 mile drive, my ears were still ringing the next morning. I LOVE the look but after the prolonged ringing in my ears answered the question of whether that setup was going on my car.

I'm pretty sure just about any open core insert will make significantly more hp than the revese flows. Question is do you like the sound and the price....

Let me know what you think as it will be a couple more weeks before I fire it up. When I bought the car I purchased 2 big amplifiers and multiple speakers with a set of 12" sub-woofers. After driving with the sidepipes a few times I sold the stereo equipment! I have way too much invested in modifying the chrome sidepipes (tall-deck motor with raised exhaust ports) and then shipping them to Jet Hot to be coated.

Default Side pipes

I just purchased the Hooker side mount headers, coated and the coated pipes with the reverse flow. My 74 BB was dropped at my front door this am and I will be installing a ZZ502/502 deluxe next week. I am also installing the tremec 5 speed. The 600 one.
I am sticking with the original rad, (New) and ordered twin elect fans. I got all the muffler, side pipes etc from Summit.

I purchased the engine from Scoggin Dickey. I am saving all the orginal parts, they are very nice still.

I need a tack drive electronic dist. My 502 came with a regular electronic dist.

They want $400 plus from ecklers plus another 300 for the ign.
AGAIN I NEED A DIST FROM A 75 to??

You will be running before me, I am in the middle of a frame off, just got the frame back from powder coating. Right now I am sanding the body.

Default Hell Yea

My paint is about a 6 out of a 10. It's new paint but a ****ty job from the previous owner. I figured I would get the motor etc insalled and then re-do the paint. Will not have to re-do the door sills etc.

If my headders and tremec come in by tuesday I can have this thing running in time for a tailgate party this weekend at the Texas OSU game in Austin. It runs pretty strong with the orginal 454 but can not wait for the new engine.

Mine had a set of no frills (read homebuilt) side pipes with glass-packs when my buddy and I drove it home to Dallas from Carlisle last year. 1500 miles of wide open throttle with the windows and top down (no a.c.)...we still can't hear very well...Huh? What? I just upgraded to Sweet Thunders and original covers, what a difference!

Default stuff

This one has a/c, new comp, blower not working and comp not coming on, minor fix. I have to have A/C . I am going to put the insulation under the carpets also. Driving it this afternoon in Austin traffic the shifter *** was HOT, my wife could not keep her hands on it. I think the side pipes will help with the cooling as well. I am going to use the shifter that comes with the tremec. I crawled under it this afternoon and the guy was wroking his way up. Has new 430 # fiberglass spring in rear and under very clean and engine compartment very clean and interior is about 8 out of 10. I love my 81, but after today......I am keeping this BB and will put my 81 up for sale SOON. I want a live auction though. If I can get some tickets to the OK Texas game I will drive this sucker to dallas..
