Default Shifter Problems

Is theresome sort of adjustment on a 72 4 speed shifter works fine on
1-4 but when I shift it into reverse nothing happens. I did not look yet I just was curious if there was some adjustment.

Thanks

Calvin

Reverse has it's own shift rod and lever, did your problem start suddenly.

May be that the linkage came apart, it's the farthest back on the transmission.

Can you give more info on the "nothing happens"

Sorry for the lack of information the shifter seems to shift fine and shifts into reverse but the transmission never engages.

I would raise the car
Get it in neutral, get under the car and see if you can get it in reverse by moving the lever (may have to rotate the driveshaft by hand a bit)
If you cant get in reverse, remove the reverse rod from the shifter and try it again
If you get reverse then its the shifter

If you still cant get it in to reverse then your having transmission problems, which I doubt

So ...... theres a starting point.

Of course be careful, chock the wheels if your using ramps or Jack stands if your using a Jack........ there, I just covered my butt incase you get hurt.

Have to agree with this, if you still can't get reverse gear while manipulating the shift lever at the transmission, the tranny will have to come out and the tailshaft housing will have to come off to investigate further.

If you do get the transmission into reverse by hand on the shift linkage, make sure to put it back in neutral. This will indicate a shift linkage out of adjustment.
