Default mad at ecklers

Im furious with Ecklers, I have had realativly good luck with them in the past, but this was just rediculous. I ordered a actuator seal for my 77 last wednesday, and had it on 2nd day/rush delivery, where here it is monday and no seal, so I decided to call them. I was on hold for literally 30 minutes, when I finally got a rep, she told me the seal was on back order and she "didn't know why they didn't call me to let me know." :mad
usually I have a lot of paitence, but when I have to have things together in time, getting things to my door is critical. I have to have the car back together by thursday to take it up to the body shop. So that means I'll be working until 11:30-12:00 wednesday night, assuming I can get it here tomarrow from a different vendor(I cancled my ecklers order)

:mad sometimes I get so frustrated at these vendors.

I understand bro, they're usually pretty good though. I always ask them up front " Is this part in stock"?, prior to ordering. Helps out most of the time as long as their computer shows more than one in stock. If it shows only one then I'll make them send me to someone who will do a visual check for me. Quoting from another forum member here, but it describes me to a T. "I am to patience what the Titanic was to maritime safety"! Cracks me up every time I read it.

I just ordered it through ZIP. hopefully it will be here wednesday. Im going to have to work like crazy to get it done so I can get it to the paint shop thursday. Im trying to have it home by mid november from the paint booth, and done completely by christmas, but that won't happen if everything I order is on back order. Plus the zip rep seemed nicer and more knowladgeable then any of the ecklers reps I have talked to before.

I would think that in the interest of good customer service, they should TELL you if the part is in stock or not. You shouldn't even have to ask.

And they most certianly should have checked if someone was ordering for a rush shippment.

Idiots

I no longer deal with Ecklers just for this very reason. They have also shipped me wrong parts with every order I've ever made. The best was the C4 antenna gear (long plastic piece with teeth on it) in lieu of my right rear brake line. They got the left rear brake line though!! I've also had some serious issues with the quality of their merchandise. I put their weatherstrip on my doors and 6 months later it's already deteriorating.

I use Zip now. They have actually called me twice to let me know something wasn't in stock. I've been very impressed with them overall.

This is my first time using zip, I hope it all turns out. I have also gotten the wrong parts from ecklers, IE. a hood pull instead of the cable. I asked for the left to right cable that runs on the firewall, so they sent me the one with the handle that says "hood" on it. I called them and told them it was the wrong part and the lady was like "oh I just talked to my manager, he says they don't make the left to right cable for '77"...I said "shouldn't you have checked when I placed my order instead of sending me the wrong part?"...she had no clue. Oh well, hopefully ZIP will be a godsend for my 'vette.

Although I havent tried it myself, I have heard that baby bottle nipples can be used for the headlight actuator seals. They do seem to be roughly the same shape.

Andy Young at Zip handles their internet sales including the corvette forum restoration store. I found him to be very helpful when I had questions/concerns about an order. He checks his email often - I have exchanged several emails with him in the course of one day. MJ

I have had good and bad experiances with all the vendors that we use. I guess it all depends on who answers your call. I will use the one with the best price and I call all of them to check availability before ordering. That helps me with any backorder issues one vendor may have and another vendor may have the same part in stock.

Regarding Zip ... I am spoiled, work only 15 minutes from them and have been restoring my 73 .... they have really been great, always willing to spend time with you and have just about everthing in stock, if they don't they will usually ship it to me for free. They also have a 69 in the sowroom with the body seperated from the frame .... great to look at if your not sure how things come apart and go together.
Good Luck!

Are you sure it's not a 71? They had a Green 71 at Carlisle that was separated from the frame.

I've had good luck, so far, with MidAmerica and Zip. Ecklers was fair. They shipped me a control valve rebuild kit and power steering slave cylinder kit, with no instructions, even though the catalogue says they both come with instructions. Just the same, Ecklers took the (slave cylinder) part back and refunded my money, with no hassle. I'll use them again.
