Wuttin...I don't know how I missed this thread back in June, but very sharp idea. I don't have a need for it, but just love to follow the creativity shared on this forum. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, his covers are great. I think most of our "creativity" comes from seeing how much the vendors parts are then we at least ATTEMPT to make something we need. I'm at about 80% success at making my own stuff, the other 20% of the time I go crawling back to vendors with credit card in hand :o

Thanks for the kudos...in my case, the car came with the buckets and a real lame-o set of homemade covers. Eckler's is the only show in town for a flat shield, so... I will say that I thought about the best way to do this for a while before starting, so it came out pretty good. The quick, creative responses aren't always so satisfying, but they get the job done.
I may restore the pop-ups in the future. All the vacuum lines are still in place if I opt that route. But considering that I need other $$ things first, an inexpensive, creative answer keeps me in business.
Can just the buckets be bought for that project? I would love to do the bucket kit, but use my own round healights instead of the rectangled Camaro lights. I have some that would fit great, and with the new lens idea it would look great.
thanks for the responses - esp. strokervette - i already e-mailed
them for price and delivery.
my '79 had those *bucket* lights when i bought it from
the junkyard - and bucket is the word to describe them too,
stuff goes in - and stays in there - leaves, water, dirt, bolts
& nuts, little kittens,...

they look a lot like what Eckler's offers for $299...I expect when you get the price you'll be headin' to the depot for some materials. Keep us posted!
I wish I could find the vendor that makes this headlight setup. It's probably a boatload of $$$ This pic is from someone on this forum so if he wants to come foward and share, at least I'd like to know what it costs.

Those are the L88 headlights. Another member here has a blue Vette with similar lights. The kits are VERY expensive, but the headlight bucket itself can be made from sheet metal, and fitted yourself. The thing you will want to buy are the molded covers. Those are slick, but they are also considerably more expensive than going out and buying some materials and making your own covers.
There are a number of options for plexiglass headlight covers, you already saw the Greenwood site. The cheapest and easiest locally available from any plastics distributor or even Home Depot is flat plexiglass, east to cut and drill, can be top mounted or undermounted.
The previous post shows what are commonly called "double bubbles" used during the late 60's early 70's on most racers. They are available for $200-$300 for the lenses but must be top mounted, the bubbles are bigger than the openings. Seperate headlight buckets are available. They are available thru F.Gregg Racing, Bondorant, etc. I've seen them on Ebay.
The Double Bubbles actually look good enough for me to spend that money, but I'd make my own box and fit my own smaller round headlights inside.
I have the plans to make the box. Does anyone know if teh double bubbles will fit flush? I know they are top mounted, but do they sit flush or will that take some customizing
They are shaped to the body so they fit fairly flush to the contours. They are easily "shaped" with a dremel sander if you want to make them smaller. Round off the corners as they will tend to crack if not done. I've seen a dozen different ways of surface mounting them, there are some close up pics on my site.

L-88 headlights ("double-bubbles"), threads all over the place in C3Gen and C3Tech. Make the buckets yourself (easy) and buy the covers from FGregg or Guldstrand. Or buy the whole deal (buckets/covers) from them, just be ready to drop 600 bucks and you'll still need some fitting and a bunch of parts. I know redvetracr was selling a complete set over in C3Parts a while back too.
hey wuttin - i just really had a chance to look at your step by step
photos - great job - i expect to (after reviewing prices) to go
that route - i may have to check with you when i get to it.
thanks a million - andy
