Possible transmission problem.... need help with diagnosis!
Hey guys,
I was crusining around in my 73 L-82 when all of a sudden i go and press the gas and it feels as though the car is stuck in 1st gear? It is an automatic car. I press the gas and I hear the engine rev-really really high and I could not go faster than 30-35mph because it sounded as though the engine was working so hard. Also when I press the gas pedal it felt soo weak, as if it wasn't causing the car to accelerate? In addition to this, when I hit the gas the Oil pressure whould jump from 35 to 70! And the engine began to overheat after aout 5 min? What's with my car guys?

Have you checked your transmission fluid?? Make sure it is full of fluid, make sure the fluid is red not brown, and make sure it doesn't smell burnt, if the fluid is brown and smells like it has been overcooked you definately need to get that tranny to a shop.

Mine acted a little like that one time when my vacuum line to the trans. modulator came off. Wouldn't explain the overheating though. Good luck.

Is it still behaving this way?
Could something be clogging the exhaust? How old is the catalytic converter? Sometimes those things block up almost completely.
