Hey guys, this is my first post but I've been lurking on the forum for probably the past year while rebuilding my 350. Unfortunately, now that she's running strong, my rear bumper has deteriorated. Just tonight when I went out to clean the car, I noticed the whole area around the license plate totally separated and was being held up only by the wires! I guess my question is if I go with a truflex bumper, about how much would getting this thing painted (white) cost? from what I've read, they aren't too terribly difficult to install, so i'll try that myself. OR would a fiberglass eckler's one be worth the extra effort? time to go drink now.
...do NOT put an NOS original one back on your car. Even if you found one, it's STILL be a 31 year old part and unless it was "vacuum sealed", it'd probably split 3 months after it was installed.
...I put the Eckler's true two piece '74 Flex-Fit bumper on my original paint "Survivor" '74 and it came out beautiful. It's the one replacement rear '74 bumper that looks the most correct and original.
I replaced mine about three years ago with a eckler's true-flex. I put it on myself and took it to a body shop for final fitting and paint. If I remember correctly it was around 150-200 I think. The bumper looks great. I got the one piece split bumper so I didn't have to worry about the seam in the future.
I have to get my front done this winter since it is cracked in half.
I have ordered a fibreglass one from Ecklers, has not not arrived yet, I will keep u posted on how it fits and looks, I have the old one off, was easy as I have the body off at the moment.
I am sure you will have to remove the fuel tank (which is easy) and the low speed collision gear we have on the rear, it is then just lots of bolts
Good luck
