Total time to fab up....2 hrs. with a $1.85 invested in the nut. Steel was free. Could have taken them to get pressed out but like fabing stuff up and I am showing my son how to do some of this. It's crude I guess but worked like a charm.

Do you still have it? Can I borrow it? I'll pay for shipping.

I'd love to see pictures...I still have a decent-sized chunk of 1/2" steel plate around.

I'm surprised you hadn't already made something like that. Figured you'd have already done that work seeing as how your suspension is already out and being powder coated.

Batman I think this is what he built.

gtr1999 said he had one he didnt use---maybe you guys could get together and buy it and then ship it around to other forum members-along with a spindle bearing setup tool and the tool to pull the spindle back in.

For $190 I'd rather rent Joe45's tool, or make one, or help Batman make one. $190 is obscene for a spindle jig.

Don't worry, I looked. I fully understand that Harbor Freight makes crap. But, there are the select few things you can buy from them that can be as crappy as they come, and still are as good as a higher priced version. I have some ttols from them that I use just as often and as hard on as my Snap On, Husky, Kobalt, Craftsman...they last the same and get used as hard.

Durango -check this tool out-I welded a muffler gun stub on the end so I could use my muffler gun instead of a hammer. This is only for ones that are not too stubborn and you need someone pulling out on the spindle at the same time.If you use the tool with a big hammer you can bend the threads on the spindle. If you use this tool you should replace the bearings because it will etch them.It helps if you add in a little heat.I hesitated to show this tool but it does work sometimes if your gun is heavy duty.I try it first when replacing bearings and it works about 50% of the time.OK--FLAME ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's really cool and all, but I'm not familiar with what a muffler gun is. Is it referred to as anything else? It looks like an air hammer/chisel.

Yes same as an air hammer. If you would use this method you have to have a heavy duty gun.

I have a gun, but no welder. I wonder, instead of welding it on, maybe make a hard threaded connection. Drill and tap a hole in the tool, and thread the end of a rounded chisel. Add one to the other, then add the tool to the yoke. Bingo. No weld tool.

sorry guys, just read the replies to my homemade tool post. Cut it up last night to use the 1/2 plate for another fab project. Never took a picture. All I did was look at the catelog pictures, layed the t/a on a bench and figured out where to put my holes. I have also read that this type of press can break the break plates. Mine did not. I suppose if they were more stubborn they could have. Good luck.Joe

Why not just get the spindle knocker to get the spindle out? The run less than $20. It screws on the end, has a fairly large head to hit on, and protects the threads from being damaged.
I used a 4lb hammer and the one side came out after several hits. The other side took a whole bunch more hits because I could not back off the parking brake shoes and had to beat the rotor past them. My trailing arms were off the car. I can see where it would more difficult to swing a hammer and hit it while the arms are on the car. Unless the front bushing is known to be new, I would replace it.

I don't think NAPA, Advance, etc. sell them. All the vette catalog companies sell them. Zip has it, search for 'rear spindle removal' and it should come up.
