Okay, here's how I have the electric pump set up on my 1977 Vette, so I don't think much changes.
Get this pump. It's a cheap bellows style pump so it's last and be very reliable. Also, once the bowls in the carb fill sup the pump shuts off until the carb needs fuel again.

Now, the best place I found is this. Passenger side. Mount the pump to the frame, on the outside of the frame, between the frame and the inside of the rear body panel. Slightly forward from the rear marker light socket. Perfect place and it fits just right.
As far as wiring, you'll want to create a relay circuit. Powered by the battery, but switched on by the ignition. Add a manual cutoff switch, and fuse the 12V lead from the battery to the relay. It'll ground to the frame so all you have to do is run the power wire to it from the relay, maybe close to the battery.
I don't know if it'll solve your vapor lock problem, but they're great for starts after a few days. All you have to do is turn on the ign to get the pump going, let it fill the bowls, and then crank it. Usually a 1-2 turn affair for me.

Yeah, check and get back. I can maybe snap a pic and post it of how mine in mounted. I love my electrics. I install them on every vehichle I own.
