so the Viton seals can only be used if the stems have been machined?
other wised ford umbrella or "vega' seals?
I have used both of these seals with good success in the past. I believe the Vega seals were even made of Viton or a very similar material. They did not have the metal reinforcing bands on them (as those above), but held up very well to cylinder head heat.
Normally the Viton as shown above do not require machining... Teflon seals on the other hand usually require machining. I have used (Perfect Circle) Teflon seals on a couple of vehicles in the past, but these are not normally recommended for street/daily driven use.
A lot of folks do like to double up with the stock Chevy "O-ring" seals, but my experience is that they very quickly harden and become brittle. I have never removed a set that didn't crumble as I was removing them. If you are using any of the above seals, the "O-ring" seals are undoubtedly a waste of effort... admittedly not much effort...
actually I don't even have headers; stock manifolds. But i do have those stupid air tubes (ca. emmissions), that i will probably have to try and remove before trying.
