Default 1979 window trim question

I have a question about my 1979 corvette (first vette) what color is the wind shield and backglass trim supposed to be? mine is chrome that appears to been painted black, the black is chipping away.I have a body man coming to look at my windshield frame tommorrow to give me some pointers about coating, epoxy or welding a couple of small pieces that are rusted out. nothing bad I hope.

Think it's stainless steel but it's painted black.

The trim is stainless, but its dyed black. Most people use semiflat black Krylon to bring it back. Rough it up with steel wool first. (protect paint, glass, and weatherstrip with tape). Cleanup, vacuum, remove tape and then retape before painting. You don't want steel wool in the paint. Good luck.

My 77 was the same way, black and looked kind of bad.I was going to repaint it and thought I would scuff it up with some steel wool.Ended up just removing all the black and leaving it that way.Think I like it better that way.Figure I could always paint it later if I changed my mind.

Satin black on the rear window trim for a 79. Eastwood.com sells the paint.

Mine had layers upon layers of black paint, so I removed it, stripped all the paint off then put a couple coats of satin black paint.
Much better now.
