Default For my first thread. Sidepipes.

I'm seriously considering buying some headers and sidepiped for my 1977 Corvette. I read through several threads on this but it seems most people are using the early big block manifold style headers.

I want chrome, side mount, with the big 4" exhaust tubes. I think I like the Hookers the best, but where can I find the headers for less than $700? I've seen the pipes and mufflers cheap, but am having trouble finding the side mount headers.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

You might find a set of used ones for that price.

Well join the crowd. Just about every one of us at some time or another has posted a thread about wanting side pipes. This thread will definately qualify as , but you'll get lot's of good info from the member here if they care to revisit the subject.
I helped a friend of mine find the best price recently at Barnett Performance in ATL. You'll have to google them for their number. He saved nearly a hundred bucks on the headers.
Here is his setup:

Yes I'm hoping for my Corvette to sound just like the one in the video clip. I love that low tone and the look of the big chrome pipes.

I know I'll end up spending a lot, but there has to be a cheaper place to get them than for $700. That's pretty high for headers isn't it?

If you're talking about the link to Summit, they are probably the cheapest around. BTW that link is for the headers only, the sidetubes and mufflers are all sold separately.

Don't let the price be the motivating factor here. I ended up spending over $800 in just the labor alone...NO PARTS. I am happy with the results, but it did not come cheap.

I know I have found the tubes and they are fairly cheap...just what I was expecting. I found muffler inserts that are under $100, and the only thing left is the headers. I want chrome, so would those be more or less than the coated ones from the link?

The chrome ones are $990.

I just paid about $1400 for my big block Hooker chrome sidepipes.

Ouch. That's tall for sidepipes. I was checking the parts section but didn't see anything that fit my needs.

It all depends on how badly you want them.

they are a bargain compared to the $2800+ to get factory style covers and pipes.

For $1400 you can get the stainless version from Summit (complete, headers, sidetubes and shipping/handling)

I spent about $1500 total. Just under $1100 for the ceramic coated headers and pipes from Jet Hot. Balance was for the JCL spiral baffles and heat shields that I got from www.cobrastuff.com.

A lot of it is supply versus demand. There are not that many Corvettes out there installing headers compared to Novas and Camaros. Therefore, no economy of scale.

You get what you pay for.

I wonder what the look would be like if I bought stainless headers and chrome pipes? Too much of contrast difference?
