I am thinking about fuel injection for my 1971 454 car. will the holley 950 comander system fit under the stock big block hood? or is there a better option?
The TBI version might. The MPFI version does not. The MPFI intake has to be cut 1/2" to fit under an L-88 hood. It will work with the factory cold-air system (after being cut).

The TBI version will fit with a low profile intake such as the '69 427/390 intake or Edelbrock's torker. I'm running this setup now with a spread bore to square bore adapter plate under the throttle body and a '69/390 version intake.

what system do you have? also do you have any other pics of the intake setup? thanks
As far as HP goes I don't have a proper baseline impression, the system was installed when the car was restored and the engine was modified from the ground up. I can say this, it no longer suffers from any vapor lock or fuel starvation from cornering/braking forces and overall drivability has been much improved. Just like the news cars, you can start it outside the car from an open window and it fires and runs without any throttle input at fast idle. When warmed up it automatically settles down to normal idle speed.
Any more updates on this post? Im very interested in converting to the TBI system on my 71 454 and would like more input from folks who have completed the conversion.

I am going to do this on my 71 454, I am just researching intakes. I called Holley today and they said the throttle body from base to air cleaner was 2 inches and you needed another 3 inches for the injectors that are above the throttle body, so you have 5 inches plus whatever the air breather needs. Conway62 if you have the stock hood maybe you could measure for me. my front clip is not on my car yet.
I wonder if the flex-jection system would fit... it uses a mechanical fuel pump instead of an electric so there's less hassel. www.rochesterproducts.com
I just took a measure. I have 6.75 inches from the top of the manifold to the underside of the hood. This sees like a tight fit. I use a drop air cleaner base on my demon and use a 2.5 inch air cleaner. This gives me 1/2 inch clearance with the hood closed. May have to use a thinner air cleaner to gain extra room.

if that is a stock manifold on your '71 it seems like it would fit, you will have to use a drop base filter, you also need a small amount of room for the spreadbore to square bore adapter.
I read there was not much difference between the torker manifold and the stock manifold in performance, if I do not need to change it that would be one less thing to do is the torker manifold actually a lower rise than the stock '71 454 manifold? doesn't seem like it could be. but with the torker you could get it with the square bore pattern and eliminate the adapter.
