Does anyone have the straps used to lift the body of my 68 convertible?
I only need to borrow them for a week, two weeks at absolute most.
I would like to lift the body early this week, monday or tuesday.
I only need these straps for a short time so I'd appreciate if someone would let me borrow them instead of me purchasing them.
I'll reimburse and pay for shipping.
If I don't hear anything by tomorrow morning I'll just have to order them.
Thanks guys. http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=4.2981
Already downloaded and printed directions.

I don't know the procedure for lifting the body off of a C3 but I went to Sam's Club and bought two nylon mesh tie down straps and they worked perfect on my C1. I don't remember how much I paid but it was reasonable. They are about three inches in diameter with ratchets on one end and hooks on the other. I ran them in front of the firewall, under the floor pan and back up through the holes under the gas tank area. I hooked each strap over an equalizer bar that hangs on my engine lift and the rest was easy. With the equalizer bar to balance the body I was able to lift it off and set it on the body dolly by myself.
I would have like to help you out but I loaned my out a year ago and haven't got them back yet. I do want to stress that if you are going to use lift straps them make sure your rocker channels are good enough to support the body. After I got mine off I about fell over, if I had known the rockers were that bad I would not have used them, I would have ran straps that went all the way under the body.
Here is what I had to do: body-off

Thats what I am hoping to do this week. Measured out my engine lift and it has more than enough travel to lift the body to where I can just drop my frame and pull it out. My car is already on jack-stands 2 feet in the air. Was just hoping I could borrow the lift straps instead of spending $100 plus shipping from midamerica or like you said from Sams club.
Just got done removing all the rear bumper braces and the lower exhaust pannel. Bolts are all loose where front radiator support meets frame, all wires/grounding are taken care of, seatbelt strap near differential/driveshaft is off. READY TO GO!! just have to disconect brake lines.

Thanks Redwing...I have read thru your website more than a few times, very nice work. I lifted once side of the body at a time with a bottle-jack and flattened pipe to install the #3 & #4 body mounts and my rocker channels are good. I always tell myself I spend a good amount of money on a car that needed everything replaced except the foundation (frame, birdcage). This car was driven so often and so hard by buba that roadgrime encapsulated anything that could rust.
Thanks again redwing for your interest in helping me and for your website.
Ordered from MidAmerica. $99.99 for straps, $45 for two day delivery.....$145 for a one time use is insane.
These will not leave my sight...I will use them for everything from washing the dog to cutting the grass...I will get my $145 worth!
I bought a body lift sling several years ago, I think I paid $60-$70 for it from one of the larger Corvette supply houses.
For you guys that have used one, do you find that the straps are wayyyyyy too long?
Every time I use it I end up connecting 4 adjustable straps from Home Depot to the clips and triangle on the body sling. The straps themselves never carry any weight, just the hardware does.
I recently got a 4-post lift and tried placing the straps over top of the ramps and pulled the body using the lift. The straps were still too long and I had to revert back to the Home Depot straps.
I also find it necessary to use a strap wrapped around a 2x4 under the body in the gas tank filler opening and a strap on the radiator core support in order to get the body balanced properly.
Am I missing something with this thing or not using it properly?
I might as well just cut the clips and triangle off and throw the straps away. The straps themselves never actually carry any weight!
With a vert. you better support the nose and the tail-that 4 strap doesnt do that.See how RPOZ4Z uses extra straps in the door area to keep tail from flexing. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1556970896
Thats a crazy setup.
I got the strap set yesterday, started setting everything up by 8:30pm, had the body off and settled by 3am.
I did have a strap holding the front, but as you can see the strap pulled the nose in towards the cab rather than lift it so I had to have my brother support the nose vertically. I guess I really ucked out with the tail. Will figure something out when i put that frame back on.
But for now.....I HAVE REMOVED MY FIRST FRAME!!!!!!! that freakin thing is heavy!
