That's right, finally after hours of prepping I am ready to por-15 my frame. I'm using por15 silver, and eastwood Chassis Black. If I knew it was going to be this much work, I would of had it p-coated. I guess doing it myself will give me more satisfaction, but damn... It's a lot of work.

I used a 4 1/2" wire wheel on an angle grinder I picked up at ACE for $15 the thing is still running like a champ after hours and hours of wheeling.

Since I was doing the frame, I decided to do the rad support, drive shaft, half shaft, basically the whole 9.

After I busted all the paint and rust off, I used Super Heavy Duty Degreaser from Harbor Fright. This stuff was 9.99 for a gallon vs $20 plus shipping for Marine Clean. It's biodegradable, so it shouldn't affect the adhesion of the paint.

As for etching, I picked up some Phosphoric Prep & Etch from Home depot, it's made by klean-strip. Again, I chose this based on price; $14.00 a gallon vs. $30.00 a gallon of Metal Ready.

Before I paint, I am going to go swipe over it with my pressure washer, and wipe it down one last time. Everything should go well, I did put the time into the prepping. Prepping is the most important part of any paint job, and I got r dun.

before painting anything...check all the welds for cracks, especially on the front where all the suspension components mount.

I only had to touch up one weld where the the front bumper nose. mounts to the body. All else is good.

Might want to lay some extra beads on the channels for the lower control arms and also weld up the rear mounting tabs for the lower arms. Now is the perfect time. The channels are only spot welded, try to clean the gap between the frame and channel as thorough as possible and lay a nice bead alongside, that will keep them in place for eternity.

Also, seeing the typically dented crossmember..have you thought about cutting that area out and replacing with a much thicker piece, sort of a jacking plate?
