Okay, I bought this clone CE thats actually a 1980, but has the rear clip from 82 CE, which has the hatch window. Now, I personally dont care if it has a hatch or not but I have had several people express some interest in the rear window. Id think about selling the hatch window set-up and using the money for perfomance upgrades.
Id rather have performance/HP than a rear hatch.
Is it easy to put in a fixed window in its place? Other options?
I know, I keep posting to myself hoping someone will respond about swapping out the glass.
Anyways, heres a quick photoshopped idea of what it might look like with a glassed in rear windo, same shape as the glass but made of fiberglass and a small plexi window dropped in. GT style.
I've got the same problem with my 81, and have been looking into switching back for some time now. The problem isn't really with installing the original glass. That's not that difficult. You just have to order a set of the clips that go in at the same time. You can find the glass on ebay ranging anywhere from $200-500, although most times the seller wants you to pick it up rather than ship it. The problem I've had is finding the metal trim to go around it. I've seen a few go by on ebay, but not usually very cheap. And it's not a part they've ever made repros of.
pretty easy conversion I just bought an 80 with the kit installed
nose is wrecked and frame is rotten and the plan is to cut it for parts
has glass tops and the CE back glass complete let me know if interested
Paul
Yes Paul, I'm interested mate. But, how easy is it to convert? Was it originally a factory installed kit, or were there brackets etc... that were part of the body?
For example, how do the hinges, strut attaching points and latching mechanism mount?
And, the BIG question, how do we get a piece of glass that big to Saudi Arabia in one piece?

The kit was made from a co. called cars and concepts same people who
supplied it to GM . I have done this conv many years ago as i remember was pretty easy almost used every anchor point that stock cars had. plus this is an installed kit so i can photograph where everything goes . The glass will ave to be crated to make the trip

It all sounds pretty straight forward and pics would be a must and I don't think surface shipping to here would be too expensive. But... $$$$ is a big factor. Boss lady will blow a gasket if I spend too much more on top of a new dash harness, front end kit and jeep box conversion kit!
