Okay, my tranny just grenaded and Im getting a range of costs to rebuild it. From $400 to $1200 to remove it, rebuild and replace. Its in a 1980 Vette.
Im guessing that all TH350's are same across the board. Or are the Corvette models different?
I have never had a turbo 350 rebuilt but if they are going to remove overhaul and reinstall the transmission and give you some kind of a warranty for max of $1200 it dont sound unreasonable to me. Some of the 350's have the lock up convertor installed but other than that I think they are pretty much all the same.
i just paid $300 to have mine rebuilt, $200 for parts including a new torque convertor and $100 labor. but i pulled it out myself. mine is a turbo 400. the turbo 350's and 400's are about the same price to rebuild. i think all turbo 350's are the same except for the lock up convertor like (WNMECH) said which kinda makes it a overdrive trans and the long tail and short tail tailhousings: I think $1200 is a bit high for a turbo 350 even if they are going to R&R it ang give a warrenty.

I had my TCI TH350 rebuilt a few months back and the total was $1300 for everything. That was just driving the car down to them and having them do everything. This was also for all heavy-duty parts for the rebuild.
EDIT: The $1300 did include a full rebuild of the torque converter as well.
I spent $800 to have mine rebuilt w/ shift kit, heavy drum & sprague, extra clutch, etc. That did not include torque converter or install. To have it done $1200 don't sound bad. If you are wanting a 2004R there is no time like the present. Don't spend $1200 doing something you are not happy with.
My TH350 is leaking from the detent cable, and I will replace the o-ring/seal but otherwise have been thinking of pulling it out and getting it locally rebuilt. I'm in the plano area.
Thanks guys. Im guessing that to replace the 350 with the 200 would cost about the same.
Yes, the $1200 includes removal, rebuild, installl and warranty.
Ill have to ask about a shift kit and any other performance mods.
Don't let them rebuild it with 1/2" bushings. Make sure that they use 1" bushings when rebuilding. Even from TCI the TH350 only had the 1/2" bushings and mine were absolutely shredded when they took apart the transmission. The shop rebuilt it using 1" bushings.
Marty and others, are you all happy with your TH350's? Or should I be thinking about the 200R4?
My car is not a highway cruiser so I absolutely love the TH350 I have in combination with my 4:11 rear gears. I would not change a thing. Mine is a bit unique with the reverse pattern shifter and all manual valve bodies. Gives me the best of both worlds.

Criss
Hey criss that detent cable o ring can be replaced with the tranny in the car. It is only one bolt and you pull the cable out of the transmission and there is kind of a hooked deal that goes into the valve body it will slide right out and replace the o ring and its a piece of cake. wont cost much more that fluid and time that is if your transmission is good other than the leak.
kursed56-Save some $$$ and go for the BTO 200R4
Mine was a little over $1800, but that included shipping, tax, all the other gadgets that go with it. All I had to buy was a new U-joint and fluid
What's a 200R4. I'd love to replace my 3 forward speed trany with a 4 or 5 forward speed trany if it's an easy swap without lots of modifications and jury-rigs.
