Got new Urethane bushings for the rearend, got the old rubber ones out. Does the shell have to come out? Looks like it does, then I assume the new ones go in without a shell?
Nothing like that on these, I am talking about the big mounts to the frame, not the front mount. The new urethane units are 2 piece plus a tube for the bolt, no washer. There is a steel shell pressed in the hole in the ear on the rear end, looks like it has to come out, I just don't want to bugger up the rear end ear
Oh those, you have to remove the shell..first hole saw out the rubber, remove the rest..then the shell (green coated steel) remains in the batwing, just grind a groove in it to create a weak spot and collapse it inward, it'll easily come out. The original is 1 piece, the urethanes go in from both sodes..however since the stocker is 1 piece only 1 side of the bore is chamfered, you may want to chamfer the other side to ease installation. After you have them in drive the inner sleeve into them and you're done. I thought you were talking about the pinion mount.
Also note that there has been some issues with the 80-82 poly frame mount bushings. The issue is the tube in which the bolt slides through. Make sure it does before you take the old rubber ones out. If it doesn't fit, call whoever you got it from and have them send you the other size tube.
LOL, little late for that NOW!
Yea, I checked all that out before I started.
Used sawzall to score the inside of the shell and collapsed them with hammer and chisel, slid right out. New ones went in pretty good, had to schamfer the one side, grease it up a bit and used a c-clamp and they went right in
Thanks
Hey Sixfooter, what are you doing? Are you replacing a steel rear end and crossmember support with an aluminum batwing. Me two. Right now, me and my buds are designing and building brackets. Have you done that already? I won't be ready for a couple of weeks, but please post pictures and descriptions on how your doing.
Edit. Nevermind, I see you have an 81.
