On my 1980 the fuel pump has three lines. One from the fuel tank to the fuel pump, one from the fuel pump to the carburetor, and a return line from the fuel pump back to the tank. (passenger's side)
The evaporative canister on the driver's side is connected to a line that runs from the fuel tank to the canister, the canister is also connected emissions control hoses and vacuum lines that run from the carburetor.
There is no line that runs directly from the fuel pump to the charcoal canister.
