Some of you may rememer about a week or so i posted a thread about my rebuild an the vette beginning to smoke.. I had it out for about 2 weeks now and it was finally broken in.. I had it on the highway yesterday after and i was on her pretty hard getting into higher rpms (4500) When i came to a stop in front of my house i noticed some smoke.. I put it away for the night and when i came back to the garage this mornin to start her up she started smoking again after about 5 minutes or so.. I guess its time for a stroker kit.. Im guessing that since i didn't have the cylinders bored and sleeved that this may be the culprit.. Im done being angry with the car, i should have taken all these steps in the first place. i figured that since the car had only about 75k on the engine it would be fine.. Live and Learn i guess
I had them honed.. but the guy that helped me build the engine the first time worked for a machine shop.. Little did i kno he was terrible.. He got fired a few weeks later.. He honed them when i brought the block to the shop.
I can't understand why it would stop smoking for 2 weeks and then start suddenly again.. I think the vette just really wants to be stroked
Yea i had the heads off.. They are new Dart heads.. Seals are fine no oil on the interior of the valves.. I dont kno.. The smoke stopped believe it or not.. Hoping that from ragging on it maybe the pipes got hotter an the oil residue heated back up??? wishful thinking i guess

Sounds like you have covered all the bases and you have a good feel for serious problems.Drive it and keep a check on things and read your plugs. You could of had build up in your mufflers.Just drive and try to enjoy ! (but keep the radio low)
I think i solved my problem! Well not really, but my neighbor is throwing a 454 in his SS so i am going to purchase his 350/350.
On another note.. I took the vette out today to clean it up a little bit.. when i was finished i took it for a spin an decided to take it on the highway to really get on it.. I brought it to about redline thru the first 3 gears. i noticed that when i came back around town sitting at lights the smoke wasn't as bad.. A little puff of grey smoke and then it would seem to stop.. Maybe she likes just being ragged on... IDK.. Im thinking that i blew out whatever oil was in the #8 cylinder by driving it like that???
When you hone a block, you have to hone it with the grit stone required by the rings you are going to use.
You don't "generic" hone a block. The final cylinder wall finish has to match the type of ring (material) you are going to install. This will make a big difference in how well the rings will seal, or, if they will seal at all.
