Default More BB intakes

Would it be possible for some-one to make a list (even a sticky) of what intakes (stock or otherwise) fit under a BB hood??
I have seen numerious combo's mentioned but can never remember. especially when your out & stumle on an intake for sale!

I know there's a lot to be gained with a better than stock (cast iron) intake!
Personally I'm looking for the list of intakes that will take a Quad-jet?
Maybe also? what intakes can you use when you use a drop aircleaner lid??

Default other intakes

I have heard that the Performer RPM is ok. Also some have said that the Holley Dominator is good. I have an old aluminium chevy intake off of a 427, that I keep meaning to get ported. Having your stock intake ported is an option too. Both Gessler and Brendeski, spelling? can do that. In fact I have always wondered if porting the stock unit was not a "better" idea?

Default Carb Clearance

I have Edelbrock Torker 11 on my '68 427. Fits with Holley 750 DP using stock drop-down air cleaner. 1/4" to 1/2" clearance under hood. However if the manifold mounting was milled level you would get more clearance. Manifold as it comes would typicaly go on a car with engine mounted much higher and engine sloping down a little at rear. The result being when used on a Vette the manifold 'pad' actually slopes forward by a few degrees. Makes for fun setting float levels!

Big block w/ stock hood is a short list:

GM intakes (LS6 dual plane, tri-power)
Holley street dominator single plane (discontinued since many years. Try swap meets).
Edelbrock Torker II single plane.

I used the LS6 dual plane with a stock 75 small block hood and with a dropped base aircleaner and a cleaned up under side of the hood it fit just barely but it fit.
I found that intake to outperform anything else I tried in the future.

Does the '77 have the same hood rise as the '73-76?
What was the year where the lowered the rise?

Thanks

The 73-79 are the med. rise hoods.
The 76-79 med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPM & others on SB w/ aftermarket (about 1 1/4") dropbase filter (about 3") & Holley.

This is next best to the hi rise L-88 hood. The L-88 hi rise hood is only 7/8" higher than the 73-79 med. rise hood & allows a taller intake for BB.

There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

Sorry Ganey but once again, I'm confused
Is there a difference from 76 to 77?
Or from 73 to 79?

I think you are saying that all hoods between 73 and 79 had a rise but the hieght was was different in certain years...Correct?
Please elaborate if you can
Thanks

The med rise should be same on 73-79 hoods. The hoods are a little different- 73-75 & 76-79.

I used an Edelbrock Torker II with a drop base air cleaner and a banjo fitting on an Edlebrock Performer carb under a stock flat 75 hood. You need to make sure you have enough room for the motor to torque over a bit and not whack the hood with the air cleaner and not have the hood hit the mounting stud when you close it. Next time you are at a car show, check out how many vettes have a big star crack in the middle of the hood.
