Default Pro Comp Distributor Opinions

I am going to change over to an HEI with a tach drive cable for a 72 Corvette small block 350. My question is what do you think of Pro Comp Distributors as they have a unit for sale at $250.00? It includes the coil in the cap set up instead of a remote coil. Has anyone had experience with these or should I just look at getting the MSD set up. I was wondering if anyone has had good luck with these or just stay away. Thanks!!!

I just purchased a pro comp reduction starter and I must say it looks really well made and with good materials. I have not installed it yet but will get on to it this weekend. Like yourself I would be interested in other comments.

I've got one of their HEI units with vacuum advance in my '81. Had it for just over a year and last friday the ignition module finally died. Not sure if it's something related to procomp or if it was just something that happens. Replaced it with a standard replacement module and it works just fine again. Overall very good distributor, I think my module was just a fluke.

I just got my STAR HEI tach drive dist today, shipped to my house for $190. Comes w/ cap, module and coil. I have a 72 also. In the middle of ZZ4 swap/tranny rebiuld/radaitor replacement, waiting for my HAYS clutch to come off back order from JEGS. I'll let ya know how it works in a couple weeks. (If all goes well)

Thanks for the replies. I will more than likely go with the pro comp, but will wait to see what other people say as well. With the coil on top of the cap, do you have any hood clearance or air cleaner clearance? I have a drop base installed because the manifold sits a little higher than stock with a K & N filter. Thanks again for all the replies so far.

I have an HEI set-up in my '69.....fits good, no clearance issues with air cleaner or hood.
