i have a 75 vette 350 auto th400. my car sometimes wont shift into 3rd gear . i changed the modulator valve, but it didnt help. i drained some fluid and put an additive in fo slipping trannys but after that and before i drove it i had the air cleaner off and noticed the ported vacuum wasnt blocked off, so i blocked it off and drove the car and now it shifts fine. i guess i should mention i took it to a local shop and they said they checked the vacuum and it was fine and recommended a rebuild. my question is did the stop slip make it work or blocking off the vacuum? and how could they say the vacuum was good with it not being blocked off? anybody got any ideas? thanks in advance

Myself I dont have much faith in additives curing problems in transmissions but I could be wrong. You said that sometimes it would not shift into 3rd gear so that probably rules out that the transmission was slipping. Hopefully plugging off the vacumn port will be a permanent fix. I kind of doubt that the shop actually checked the vacumn.
