Default Chevy crate ZZ572

Anyone know if a Chevy crate ZZ572 would fit in a 68. Would I need any upgrades to suspension, stiffening frame, etc. How about tranny choices? Can I use my stock 4 speed tranny?

you will have to fabricate a set of headers, as that motor uses the tall deck block. It is a good idea to replace worn suspension pieces with new...

Your tranny will hold up if you don't go crazy with the shifts.

Check out the pump gas 555 at Scoggin-Dickey, listed under their Street Warrior engines. It's a short deck engine that makes more torque (675) and hp (710) than the 572 (620hp/650tq) and it's not even $1000 more. It uses the same hydraulic roller cam, Dart Pro 1 heads and a Dart Big M block and are hand-fitted and blueprinted. They're actually closer to 750hp with the new ones - I've watched 'em dyno tuned. The 572 comes with no warranty, same as the 555. Email me at 81vette4speed@***.net, I have all the info you need on these strong running beasts.

I don't think the Muncie 4-speed will hold up under that kind of torque unless you drive it pretty conservatively. And if you drive it conservatively you don't need that kind of torque. You probably need a Viper 6-speed behind that big motor.

Rick Moroso put one in a 68, but apparently took it out! I don't know why, but he would be a good person to ask. You would need a taller hood, and I am not sure if an L-88 hood would be tall enough.

The Muncie will hold up....power shifts is a no no as the rear will be first to go, then the Muncie. You can shift fast and still keep the equipment from breaking.

I send about 640ft/lbs through my Muncie and it holds up just fine (knock on wood ). Just dont use slicks.

What size tires would I need to handle this beast.
I know it depends on alot of thother things but what kind of numbers might I get at the track with this kind of power?
