Measure volts not amps.
Amps doesn't tell you anything, volts tells you if the Alt is actually regulating properly.
The only reasson to care about amps is so you can say " at 60 amps the alt puts put 13.8 volts"

If it were not an issue all amp ratings would be the same no matter what the demand
