It's a Good Idea, in my experience, to set your gaps as wide as your ignition will allow to still reliably fire at the highest RPM you run. Trucks, boats, motorcycles, cars, lawnmowers, all have benefitted from wider gaps than "stock", especially with a "hotter" coil. Okay, it's not NO2, but every little bit helps.
That's assuming a lot, but it's just my two cents worth...
Looked it up, found out this is called "high speed glazing". It causes misfiring under power. Replaced plugs and wires. Runs like a champ!

The wire and boot had been fried by heat from the header. The misfiring was intermittent at first because the wire or boot didn't alway arc to the header.
