I need about 1/2 inch to make my air cleaner clear witht the install of the 502 and supplied GM alum intake. Is there an after market lower air filter or some remote type canister type fliter available??? Is there anything I can do to my hood, it had a 454 original. 74 model. Thanks Paul
I've never seen a 1/2 inch air cleaner and I suspect if there were one it would starve your engine of the air it requires. You need a new hood that gives more verticle room and Echlers and Mid America sell them I believe.

Good Luck
OK< Sorry for the confusion, I need an additional 1/2 inch of clearance to close my hood. I need some adaptor that uses a hose or someting with a remote air filter or a air filter that is 1/2 inch shorter or something???
I got mine through Jegs or Summit - cant remember which.
If you know that you need 1/2" more - go with the biggest drop that you can get.
I went middle of the road and I have a 79 L82 that I am putting an edlebrock RPM performer intake and a holley 750 on. Was afraid that i was going to be shy on space and decide on a insurance part with the K&N drop base filter housing & filters. Started thinking about it and also opted for the extreme air filter top.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.

Looks like that might already be a drop base. There are different bases, some drop more than others. Another route is a shorter element, if your is 3 in you can get a 2.5 in. Then you could get an Extreme top like the one I have if you think you need more air flow
I use a moroso drop base air cleaner and a 2 3/4 accel filter with a Torker2 manifold. An extreme lid would not fit.could try a 2 1/2 accel with an extreme lid. I have a 427 with stock 427 hood
I ran a 454 with the high rise LS6 intake in a stock 75 by cleaning up the underside of the hood and using a drop base air cleaner and a 2 inch element. If you are using a 3 inch element they do come in 2 inch by I believe 14 inches diameter.
A 2 inch is available but nothing shorter

Go with the Moroso, its lid is a little flatter than most giving you a little extra room, plus the center where the wing nut goes is contoured down some for better flow but it also has an additional benefit of lowering the nut location. Solved my room issues over a no name dropped base airfilter.
