Idiots designed the battery position behind the seat in the hatch space. That means getting out of the seat for a jump or charge. I ended that today by connecting to the posts, running long leads of cable through the body and firewall. The connection is now under the hood. Where it needs to be.
Good Thinkin, Most of my hot rods over the years I did the same thing in the trunk, so on the side of the road, all I had to do was back up to the victim and pop the trunk. You have to use a BIG cable for this to work well. I use 2/0 or 4/0
Would it be possible to do something similar, but instead of running all the way back to the battery, just run to the starter and ground directly? Seems like a much shorter cable run and that's where all the juice needs to go anyway. I'm not planning on doing anything like this, just asking the question.

An idea but i will not be messing around with the starter.. Maybe cause a problem. Besides it,s tough to reach from my wheel chair. My thought was to eliminate having to get out of the car into the wheel chair and then it,s still hell to reach and connect jumpers.

I carry the husky portable jump start battery. it has the cable for jumping, a light, and a 12 volt port for compressors and lights and such.
whne the batt dies cause i left the lights on or something, opent the lid, turn arounds and hook it up, flip the switch, an dfire him up. works great and i only charge it once a mont to keep it fresh. great on road trips or arounfd town
But wouldn't the reach be lower behind the seat? Vs reaching up and over a fender, then down to that thing? Just curious. Thats why I asked
I think he means so he wont have to get out of the drivers seat.
I just installed hand controls on a 74 and was looking at a spot under LR fender or in the RF fender side opening using large round male female type connectors.

Good idea to access your battery in the engine compartment. However, it was a good idea for GM to put the C3 batteries in the back where they wouldn't be exposed to engine compartment temperatures.
Cool idea! but my first thought was Those are CLOSE together. One slip and you're welding instead of jumping.
Thats why I'll be using connections like an arc welder uses for the cables-the pos. cable should only be about 18" from pos. term on starter to fender opening.(gill)

That's a good idea. My BMW 5-series had the battery under the rear seat, but they have a positive and negative connection under the hood, like you've engineered. Maybe you should work for BMW.

AND, moving 35 lbs of weight towards the driving wheels.

Thank you for the common sense.. Since Vietnam 68, i have been unable to stand or walk. So getting out of the seat unassisted is impossible for me.. I have overhead electrical lifts in both my garages and in my house that i must use to get into my wheelchairs.. Now i know lots of vette owners think that because i,m a paraplegic i shouldn't,t be allowed to own Corvettes , but i don,t give a damn about what anyone thinks about me. I enjoy all five soon to be six of them. All hand controlled along with my other four cars. Now i,ll get a bunch of flames about being sensitive but it is the truth. Do you do H/controls regularly for other paras ? And have you done other vettes ?

Thanks but i have no need nor do i want a job. I have just completed a three year project at seven days a week. now it,s time to rest and play. I only wanted to make things easier for my self and maybe share it with others who might have difficulty with their present battery location.
