Default Installing brake lines

I ran into a snag installing my brake line from the font to the rear. How do you fish it through the frame under the driver's door?

This is a '68, thanks!

I just finished the lines on my 75. I had to drop the crossmember on that side. You only need to drop it just slightly to get the line in. It seemed easier to attach the line from the left rear block first. Second was to route the line between the crossmember. And last to attach the line to the proportioning valve.
Hope this helps.

i'll need to check, but it didn't look like the cross member is separate...where would the bolts be located to drop it?

thanks!

I think the frame and body need to be seperated.

I have done this on my 68. The first time, I installed a new stainless steel line but stripped the threads at the bracket that is near the drivers side rear wheel trailing arm. On this line, the fittings were plain steel. I removed that line and ordered another. I installed it and although it fit at the rear, the front of the line was for a car with power brakes. It didn't fit at the front. I removed this line, ordered another and installed it. Basically I installed this line three times!

My lines were from In-Line tubing and I ordered the stainless steel lines with stainless steel fittings.

The 68 has the welded in crossmember. At first it looks impossible, but once you've done it, it's pretty easy!!!!! The trick is to remove your old steel lines without cutting them. It's difficult at first to do that but once you learn, you just install the new lines in the reverse fashion to removing the originals. With the car on jack stands, you may have to remove and replace the jack stands as you remove your original line (without cutting it). Same when you install the new lines.

Your new brake lines will have to be manually forced up in front of the rear crossmember. Just do it. It'll work.

Good Luck!!! It's loads of fun. Send me a PM if you're really having a problem. Also, if you use the search function, I placed a long description about doing this. Maybe 18 months or so ago.

I did this a few years ago on my manual 70 with fixed crossmember. You have to jack the car pretty high up in the air and you fish it through from the front to the rear. Just keep rotating the line and manipulating it around until it goes. You will have to slightly tweak it by hand to get it through. If you got the stainless it is pretty easy to bend by hand.

I replaced all the lines, brake and fuel with the body on. What a pain!!!! The brakes were easier than the fuel. I fed the line through the back of the crossmember first to the front, then fed the rear portion into the frame going to the rear. Had to use a little force to get it up through the rear section, but it will go. Didn't have to cut the lines like I did for the fuel lines. Good luck!
