Looking to get rid of my power brakes and go manual. Does anybody know of a kit to do this?

why would you want to do that? If your looking for "Better" brakes, why not go with a Hydroboost unit?

Um...no. Why would you want to make it harder for you to stop that car?

I agree with the above. Hydro is a great upgrade. May cost a little when you get the lines made, but it'll look great, and stop you even better.

I've got manual brakes from the factory - don't do it.

What everyone else said. If your vac booster is problematic, get a Hydroboost (search the archives here for info). I used to drive a base-model '65 Mustang with manual drum brakes. That was interesting at times.

Thanks for the info but I need a manual set up. I will not have powersteering or enough vaccum to operate these. It is going to be a drag car. 81 Vette

Didn't....factory manual brakes. Both '68 are s/b and low-optioned (light weight). The '69 is a b/b, low option. Perhaps if you have a heavier 'Vette like a loaded later C-3, power brakes would be nice.

You'll have to find an adapter plate to make the 4 holes a 2 hole mounting point for the master. Then you need a manual brake master. Then's comes the fun part. Crawl on your back under the driver's dash and TRY to get the four nuts off the studs. Remove the master from the booster and the booster from the firewall. Then the clip and pin holding the arm to the brake pedal.

Once the old one is out, install that adapter plate, and the master. Hook up your lines after bench bleeding, and bleed at the wheels.

Manual brakes.

Do an archive search for threads started by Gator79. He did the reverse, manual to power. However the information is all good for what you are doing.

Here, I found the link:

No one's saying manual won't work good, we're just saying power works better.

Have you considered adding a vacuum motor to aid the engine in producing enough vacuum to handle the brakes?

Hi

we're just saying power works better

I do not agree. Power just works easier.
With manual brakes, you can also skid all 4 tires, just needs harder food force.

My red 68 BB has manual brakes and my white 68 BB has vacuum assisted brakes. Well, both brake perfectly, the white one just doesn't require any force. Don't know what I frefer, depends on my mood.

I agree with all. I just was wanting a kit to make it easy. I guess nobody makes one. I will have to fab up a plate and find a master cylinder that will work.

Sorry we couldn't help. i just don't think enough people have switched from vacuum to manual to justify someone offering a kit. And who knows...there may be one it's just under our radar.

OH, Christ Batty, you bring back bad nitemares....

only for ME it was a '67 Prand Prix, and with stock factory 4 wheel drums, it was a nitemare....then I switch to the 'hot lick' of the time which was Kelsey Hayes/Pontiac 8 bolt aluminum drums with iron liners and cool looking cooling fins on outside....known as 8 bolts mags in them daze....only 14 inch wheels...but they were good looking, some GM/Vette show car has a set bolted on it...allmost identical...

back in the daze of yore when knights were bold, liquer was quicker and so were the women.....
