I have a '69 with a new 427 and headers. How does the alternator attach. do you need a special header bracket like the small block, or will the stock bracket work? I don't have a bracket to test. thanks
I have a small block 71 where the alt. mounts to the exhaust manifold. They make brackets for it. I'd say the header companies make something for a big block, too.
I have the Hedman headers w/ 2" tubes. I used the original stud for the bracket and the stock bracket itself. The stud goes in where the end header bolt would go & runs through the bracket hole as designed. There's room to use a washer & nut to cinch directly against the header flange to seal the gasket.
There'll be a small gap between that nut & the bracket. I slipped in 3 washers to fill the gap and then used another washer & nut on the outside of the bracket to secure it. I hope that all makes sense to you. If not, I may have time Sunday to snap a pic of it.
