A 160 runs too cool & a 180 interferes with my primary fan operation.
I have them staged where the primary fan is on at about 190 & off at about 175. Therefore with a 180 stat once my primary is on, it wants to stay on. Don't really want to invest in a programable system right now, too many other things that I want to spend the $ on at the moment.
Thanks in advance.
You should have the primary set to come on at about 215 or 220 degrees. Have it shut down at about 200 degrees. Run a 195 thermostat. Your engine will live longer and get better mileage.

i'd like to know more about higher temp making headgasket less likely to go. i thought higher temp meant higher pressure. What am i missing? i don't really trust my temp gauge except that its in the range. anybody else leary of thier gauge accuracy?

I know that the gauge on my GMC Sierra says 210, yet when you hit it with the temp gun, it is 190. When I saw that, I figure that the one in the Vet most likely is off a bit too.
