Default My first post and should I keep it?

Hello everyone!
My Name is Derek and I just found your great site.I was on C-5.com but this one is way better.Just have a couple of Q's

Is anyone here from the Buffalo NY area?

Here is the big one though? While taking off my kick panels on my 80 I noticed there was alot of rust in there.I called a buddy of mine who just redid his 74.He told me these were the body mounts and to ditch the car.He said my pillars are probably shot too.I went out today and did more research and found that where the mounts are it is still solid but alot of rust.Another thing I found out is that my pillars appear fine, but the bar between them on the top of the windshield is gone.It has some sore of black caulk type stuff all over it so someone before me knew about it.Is there a way to fix this or shoulds I just ditch it.I was supposed to take it down in October and have it all redone. Was going to have it painted and while that was being done I was going to put in a new seat and carpet.I had another guy look at it and told me how clean it was underneth but he didnt look over windshield.

Do I want to spend 4K on this car or just throw it in the paper.
Thanks again and hope to see everyone around
Derek

Hard call. The rust is repairable, but not without a major investment of time. The rust will have to be removed, and whatever sections of the cage are truly rotted will have to be cut out and replaced. Nothing against '80s, but if I were looking at having to drop $4000 in the car in addition to fixing the cage, I'd be hard put to commit myself to it with a car that's going to take a while to appreciate enough to make the investment practical. Now, if it were a '69 BB convertible or something, different story.

Ditch your car cus of some rust?

all rust is repairable. If I ditched my car cus of some rust, it would have been gone years ago. just slowly get rid of all of it... (radiator shroud, window frame)...it can all be fixed, unless your not attached to that car, then I guess it would be no big deal...But I know I couldn't get rid of mine just cus of some rust...even if I totaled it(knock on wood), I would still keep it and use some of its parts on my replacement(if they where salvagable)....it can be fixed........
