Default Question about gm serpentine conversion.

I have most of it mounted as you know with mods and more mods allways something extra to do, my question is about the two short round bar type brackets one for the alternator side and the other for the ac side, are they needed if all the bolts were used in the main bracket set up.My heads had all the holes for them, in the instructions it said if they did not match up one could be left out so would be the need for them, so I am wondering if you think there necessary. Also if someone has them mounted with a pic it would be great. Thanks in advance for any help.

When I insstalled my GM performance part serpentine kit on my ZZ4 (which is in my 1968), I didn't use the brackets. Also, the passenger's side AC casting had one mounting hole that did not correspond to a threaded hole on the ZZ4 head. The serpentine kit instructions said I did not need to have a bolt at this locaton.

On a C3, the smog pump idler has to be installed upside down to clear the passengers side spring tower. Some people have said they have successfully operated the serpentine kit witout the smog pump idler. I decided to use mine, to avoid any possible harmonic vibrations. It's easy to keep it, just mount it upside down. (If you do this you will see that you have to grind about 1/8 inch of aluminum off one end of the smog pulley bracket.
