Default 82 brake installation

I am installing new pistons in the original calipers and am having a difficult time getting the boot retaining ring in the counterbore so it is flush. Any suggestions?

use a socket, also coat the rubber lip with a bit of black RTV before sliding it in the piston groove, this will help keep dirt out of the bores and keep your calipers leak free for a longer time

Default socket?

I guess Im stupid. How do I push the ring in so it is flush. Can I put a flat piece of metal on it and use a c-clamp to depress it into the counterbore?

he means a socket the same circumference of the metal ring on your seal, and tap the socket so it presses against the whole surface of the seal ring. I would assume when you tap one corner of the ring it pops out opposite of where you are tapping. just don't get crazy and force it becasueyou will bend it out of whack and never get it straightened back out
