Default grounding strap

Under my car there is a grounding strap, just in front of the driver's side door, attached to a bolt in the frame. It came off of whatever it is supposed to be attached to. It looks like a woven mesh metal thing about 7" long. The car is a '72 coupe. Does anybody know what this is?
-thanks,
assassin

The ground strap in question bolts to the #1 body mount frame boss. This is the metal part that is welded to the outside of the frame. You should see a hole in the front side that ground strap it gets fastened to with a screw. The other end goes to the rocker channel. The older C-3 cars have a clip on one end of the strap and newer C-3 have an eye hole that gets screwed to the rocker channel.

Wow thanks for all the info. My horn did stop working recently and I have a new noise in the stereo. I will reattach that now that I know where it goes. This is one very helpful community. It's like a wealth of Corvette knowledge! Thanks guys!!

Actually, I believe that's a radio ground strap.

On my '69, there are 3 of them.
1 located at the left front as described,
and 2 others located at the exhaust pipes crossmember.

Part description is located in the AIM under
UPC 69, A8 (1969 AIM)
Later years should be similar ....

From the X-member the strap is bolted on the U-clamp holding the exhaust pipe to the exhaust support bracket. The bracket comes off the trans mount.

The left front strap on a 69 is screwed to the #1 body mount frame boss and just clips on the rocker channel as pictured in the above post. Instead of screwed as pictured, it just clips on the edge. These parts are available from the advertising vendors.

Ok I found the left front strap and it appears to be connected ok.

So I just need to connect the other two that are hanging from the xmember to the exhaust u-bracket on their respective sides...

Perfect thanks!

The rocker chanel is part of the birdcage. The ground is good for most interior guages, lights, radio, and possibly other electrical components.
