Actually, I'm restoring back to PW - which previous owner converted to manual.

OK - so I bought all the PW guts on Ebay - good deal at $50 for both doors - including tracks, regulators, rollers, motors.
My door is ready and waiting. Here it is resting on the hood (with foam):
http://webpages.charter.net/davekimt...door_shell.jpg

I started looking at the manual (versus) power regulators.
The mounting bolts appear to be different locations and orientation.
Can anyone confirm this ?

Here are the two regulators:
http://webpages.charter.net/davekimt...regulators.jpg

Also, the manual regulators have pressed in nuts that the mounting bolts thread into.
My power regulators only have holes ... no threads.
Is this normal, or did someone drill out the threaded inserts ?

I'll update with more pics as soon as I start assembly.

TTT - anyone know the answer ?
Should these regulators have threaded inserts, or should I use bolt/nut ?

Already did extensive search including archives.
I saw no discussion of threaded inserts or any pics of regulators.
Year shouldn't matter much, as my doors are 78-79 doors.
Looks like PW regulators are same 68-82.
Thanks, Bob.

Huh.
My 75 AIM shows bolts.
Rivets ? What kind ? It's at least a 1/4" hole.

Just to keep things rolling, I cleaned my latch mechanism last night.
It was caked with 30+ years of grease and grime and dirt.
First, sprayed it all down and soaked with WD40 to loosen hard grease.
Then, boiled that sucker for a couple hours in a pot with some Dawn
detergent and a dishwasher tab .... now it needs greasing again.

I just did a search and found that CoolShark did the conversion on a '72 in May
Maybe you can PM him... He is active so I would think he would get the PM

It's been a long time since I was in the doors, but if memory serves, you need the press-in nuts on your power regulators. When I removed the regulators from my '68 and my '80, there were no separate nuts, so I'm sure they had the press-ins.

OK ... so I thought.
I'll need to dig out my riv-nutter or maybe just tack some nuts on with the MIG.

So, new question : I see the three mounting holes (2 at top and one on bottom left).
There is also a threaded nut at the end of the motor.
You can see it in the pic: http://webpages.charter.net/davekimt...regulators.jpg
This would coincide with the area of the removable cover.
Should I assume this threaded hole was for mounting in another type of car ?

Tonight I get to clean the tracks !!

I did this conversion to my '68. It looks like the nut inserts have been removed from your regulators. The PW regulators mount at a different angle in the doors than the manual regulators. Other than that, it is a very straightforward installation. The same tracks are used for either manual or PW and all the holes already exist in the door frames. I've a hunch that you got such a good deal on the setup because the seller knew there was a problem with the regulators (that I'm sure he'll never admit to).

The original install used 1/4 " rivits , the motor bolt hole is very important to keep the motor from moving side ways and hitting the cover and keeping the entire regulator even during the up and down movement. If your cover dosen't have a hole in it then drill one 1/4 " it uses the same 1/4 bolts that hold the tracks .

So, the vote is (2) bolts (2) rivets ....
and drill a mounting hole in the access cover.

Hmmmm ... inclined to go with bolts unless a compelling reason
to use rivets will surface. You guys KNOW my vette is "ncrs".

BAH my '81 doors had been taken apart by some knucklehead who lost all nuts and bolts and ground off all rivets. I used all bolts with locking washers and drilled new holes in the lower access covers (over the motors). Make certain the motors have the correct tabs, and also make certain the motors are bolted tightly against the access covers.
I also adjusted the motor bolts and greased them both up real purdy-like, and now the windows go up and down like lightning.

My 81 had rivits in it when I got it. Now it has nuts and bolts.

Thanks to all who contributed.
I will certainly make some progress this weekend.
I'm inclined to weld a few nuts to the regulator and bolt up.
Stay tuned on Monday for new pix.

you might consider going down to napa auto parts and getting new motors. I wish I did when I performed this conversion. Although I tested them out prior to install and they ran free and strong, the performance with a load on them has been less than overwhelming.

Thanks Chris.
While these are obviously used, the motors look to be fairly new.
They have UPC stickers on them ... definitely not originals.
I'm doing one door at a time, so I will fully test this one before moving on.
Thanks for the tip.

No pics from the weekend, but I have all the parts now fully cleaned
and greased up nicely for installation ... maybe tonight.
