Default Door panel trim transfer

I'm in the middle of a partial interior restoration. Pretty much everything that doesn't look new or in excellent shape is getting replaced.

I have a '72 with the deluxe interior.

I ordered a set of new bare door panels, since my trim is all in great shape.

Of course, some of the pieces are screwed in and that's easy enough. But the surround piece for the door lock **** is riveted in and the U chrome piece that is behind that has tabs that are bent and stapled over.

So, here's the questions....

What kind of staple do I use? Will a standard staple work ok, or are the ends too long? I don't want to punch through the new panel.

As for the rivets, I have access to a friends rivetter, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Is there another option for mounting that plate? Will some self tapping screws work ok?

Will all the questions I've had lately, I feel like I did when I got my first C4.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to your educated responses, as usual.
Chris

Default Door Lock **** Trim Replacement

I had the same question about the "rivets" in the door lock **** trim. I e-mailed "Corvette America" about this and they very promptly replied with the info that what looks like a rivet is really a bead of solder. They said to simply remove the bead with a soldering iron and the trim pieces should come right out. They can then be re-installed in the same manner....or with screws.
As for the staples...that must have been a potential problem I missed in my first assessment that I will have to take another look at. My '77 may not have the staples your '72 has.
Since I haven't actually performed this door panel swap yet...I am just relaying what I have been told.
So, I suppose this is a plug for "Corvette America". They are more than helpful and super fast with a response. Shoot them an e-mail and see what they tell you.
I'll tell you how my swap turns out as soon as I get it done.

The staples are not really necessary, but most common staples will not have legs too long. You certainly have the oportunity to take one out and see what size it is.
