Clutch Area Noise...
Would appreciate any thoughts on what could be causing this...
The car drives fine but the noise is loud.
* Clutch pedal in... rev engine at any rpm and there is NO noise
* put shifter in neutral...release clutch... rattle around 2,000 rpm and very loud clicking noise around 3,000 and up
* Car drives fine...no feel of slipping...
The anti-rattler spring is just a small spring that hooks onto the shaft at the clutch fork. There are 2 of them on my '79. Check and see if they are still there. If they are there then you problem may be elsewhere.
I'm not 100% sure your tranny has this anti-rattler.If it does and is coming loose chunks of it could end up between gear teeth and cause a real problem. It is a thin metal gear attached to the forward most gear on the counter shaft and spring loaded.I wouldnt drive it until you find the noise.
Definitely not the anti rattler... is coming from inside the bell housing....
Any other ideas?
Well sitting still clutch in verses sitting still clutch out in neutral.Your engaging the disc and input shaft....pilot bushing? If your saying its in the bellhousing........However the anti-rattler is just 2" away inside trans. When you engage the input shaft(clutch out) in neutral you are spinning the counter shaft and "all" forward gears in trans.

Did some more experimenting today... Noise remains when in neutral (or when driving) and clutch fully engaged. Also found that when it is making the noise...I can consistently make it stop by just putting a little pressure on the clutch pedal. Throughly checked out the anti-rattle devices... springs in place, fork well attached to the pivot ball...
