Default Drive Shaft U-Joints

Hello out there. Can anybody tell me if there is a easy way to remove the bolts from the drive shaft u-joint connected to the rear end. I have a 81 and it looks like there is hardly any room to get at it. Also what size socket do you need?
Thanks Tim

I think an 81 uses the 1/4 inch with a 12 point. some are 1/4 and some later ones are torks. You will need to determine that. I use a long extension about 14 inches long with a wobbler end and go through the driveshaft opening from the front. Easy.

I did this on my 81 not too long ago. 1/4 inch 12 point socket, assuming that it has never been changed.

The easiest way that I found was to put the rear end up on axle stands and have the car in neutral. This way you can rotate the drive shaft by hand and make access easier. The front one was easier with a u-joint but the rear was easiest done without the u-joint and enough extensions so that you could reach it from in front of the frame loop. Do the fronts first as well.

1980

I jacked up the rear end and removed the tires. I came in from the side for the inboard ones. It was the first time I did it and was just tiime.
