I bought a pair of bare 990's off ebay for $600. They are hi-perf 118cc rect port and rated 425 hp. By the time I got valves, hardened seats and put together Ive almost got a g in them. They are nice but then I think for a little more I could have gone with Aluminum. Oh well future mod.

Unless your heads needed new valve seats, I wouldn't have spent the money on the hardened valve seats. I ran my "215" heads with soft seats and never had a problem. This included over 50 1/4 mile passes and a lot of street driving.
The key is to find a pair that have already had the machine work done to them to let someone else eat the costs. I bought my "215" heads for like $600 and all I did was hot tank them, lap the valves in, put my valve springs on and bolted them up and ran a best of 12.1 @ 118mph.
Ok, so back to the point. The motor is basically planned. A stock bottom end and block from a 1999 Vortec 454. It has factory roller, and factory serp. I think that's a good starting point, and I can get a good core ceap, and re-build it.
Now, knowing there are a lot of options for good flowing heads, what would you suggest? Iron is fine with me, if someone knows a good iron head for this motor.
