Howdy All, I have a question. I live in San Diego and like a dummy sold my blue on blue 71' LT1 to a fellow in Riverside/Orange County last year. I miss that car wish I had it back. Anyway, I saw a Corvette in New York for sale and don't plan on flying back to see it if I can (now it gets tricky) hire a Covette specialist to inspect the car, I am real picky. If I decide to proceed, do any of you fine people know of a company or person that does this work, he must be specialized in these cars! The area in question is Churchville New York. Thanks in advance. Mike in San Diego. P.S. I think the guy I sold the car to is Bill and he works for Edison Electric in SoCal. Hey Bill! if you are out there, sell me back the car, my heart is broken.
Churchville is about 30 minutes from me. Look up on the net a company called Elmers auto in Webster NY. He is a Vette salvage shop. Not sure if he inspects cars but worth a shot. Phone is 585-872-4402. Ask for Jim Sr.

I am 15 Min from chruchville, And Jim Guck at elmers is a good man and knows vettes, I would also be willing to go look at the car for you and take some pics,
Done several restorations, and know my way around these old beasts.
Up to you, but i dont mind looking, done this sort of thing before
I don't know how to say this without it comming across wrong so I apologize in advance.
I would be very leary of a car from an area that may salt their roads.
Unless the car is a rare optioned car and can't be found closer to home, I would find one from a better climate area ie. CA or AR. My two cents. Good luck.
Ahhh yes, 'tis true these words, however most people around here (salty-roads-foul-weather types) squirrel away our summer cars in favor of something of the 4-wheel drive variety. It's possible that if the owner is savvy of the cars' value, then you may find a car that's never seen the likes of anything threatening at all, matter of fact it could end up being quite well-preserved, having been driven only 3-4 months during our "summer".

Mine came out of niagra falls, and aside from the usual surface discoloration, the frame is rock solid
guy i bought it from wouldn even take it out in the rain for like 17 years
I agree with the local forum members 100% (Rochester NY area). A close friend of mine just sold a '69 427 version. Solid as a rock. Up here those in the know will store their vehichles. I would be happy to visit the potental Vette with the other locals. May end up to be an interesting time to say the least. Allways interested in learning.
An intersting note on Elmers: I grew up in Webster NY. The location of the yard on Donovan St. is the same as I remeber it minus a couple of things. The original Elmer ( dealt in 30's vintage autos). Used to ride our pedal bikes up there just to talk with him and look at all the old cars. The Webster basket comp. was also on the same street. Burnt down long after it was out of business with alot of Elmers 30's era cars in it. The unique feature of the buildings was that it had a wooden enclosed overapass over Donavan st. BTW..I believe the Webster basket comp. back in the day made alot of the Easter baskets etc. for the Holidays. Now I have to research yet another topic. Will stop here. Just remembering my pre-teen days.
Look at 1971 Corvette on ebay, LT1. Green on black. The fellow (not the owner, one of these new broker kinds) never called back to tell if it has power steering which is a must. There you have it and thanks to all. I am thinking the car does not have the required power steering and that is why no return phone call.
