Default Water Pump Help!

I "Think" I need to replace my water pump. Currently the car has GM # 9975928. Hopefully I got right number off the pump and got it right lol.

Anyway... what is on there currently and can anyone point me in the direction of getting a replacment?

any auto parts store should have one. Jegs and Summit as well. My part number books shows 71' Big Block to have 3992077 pump.

What motor do you have? The 350 water pump is easy to get at the local parts store. You just ask for the Short Corvette water pump. Jegs has them too. I bought my Chrome pump from them and previosly bought an iron pump from the local parts store no problem. Jegs Iron pump is 555-51032.

Note that there are 2 types of short pumps. The Vette pump is specific to the Vette and has a larger center shaft. I believe it's 3/4ths of an inch in diameter for the small block.

I don't know about the Big Blocks. I looked on Jegs for you and I don't see a Corvette specific pump there for a Big Block. Someone else will have to chime in on big blocks.

If you're concerned about numbers matching and want to keep the original I believe they can be rebuilt.

Good luck.

I don't need numbers matching but would prefer the Correct GM part... I have a 427.

Couldl be leaking at the gasktes that mate the water pump to the block...you said that you tighten one it may have made the problem worse...pressure test & check again.

Yes after taking the pump off and inspecting it... it seems the pump is fine... The mounting gaskets were shot and appear to have been the culprit. MAde my replacements, so hopefully that solves the leak. We'll see.

I have a 427/390 engine and I replaced the water pump this past summer. I installed a Stage 2 pump from Stewart. The new pump works great. No problems.

Check it out:

I recommend the one from G.M. it's only a few more $$ than an after market one.
