Default another muffler question..please give your oppinion.

OK the thing is..im 19 and have a 1979 Vette. im building a 365 stroker for it and am wanting to put on the loudest exhuast i can. i mean i dont want pulpwood truck crappy loud. but the best good sounding loud i can get. i have headers and i know im gonna run it 3inch. but what mufflers should i get. flowmaster 40's?, dynomax bullets? i cant make up my mind so i'll ask for your oppinions. no one around here has cars i can listin 2 so i have 2 listin 2 sound clips..and some sound diffrent with the same muffler. i dont know what 2 decide on. so give me your idea of the best sounding loudest exhaust i can run.

with 3" exhaust it may not matter there will be almost no restriction so it will be very loud....2 1/2 with flow masters sounds really nice

Stick the Dynomax Race Bullets on it....I've got them on my 540....you can make a little noise with no restriction.

My 79 has true dual 2.5's with no muffs at all...sounds pretty mean....
I have Dynomax on the 76...that car I wanted some performance but not a screamer, just a sleeper....like, "surprise!!!", ya know? it works...with the dual quads, I love sneaking up on other guy's egos

Your choice I guess...

My current, temporary setup on my '81 sounds realllllllly good -
355ci
stock exhaust manifolds (stainless shorty-looking headers)
no cat
2.5 inch chambered eliminators with welded-on chrome turndowns

nice, lopey idle, then smooth, LOUD roar when winding out. On x-way, going under an overpass or bridge sounds like the world is coming to an end. DEFINITELY not for radio listening. You should see people jump when it starts too - priceless

Ok here is the deal... you are 19 with a Vette and you are going to be the target of every cop on the street the way it is. They are going to follow you around to

1. Catch you doing something stupid.
2. See if you run because you ripped it off.
3. Becuase you car is too loud.
4. Just becuase they did not have one when they were your age.

So here is my suggestion.... Go with the headers, 2.5" pipes all the way back to some nice quite mufflers. Then spend the extra cash to get yourself a set of electric cut outs that bypass the mufflers. That way when you are racing at the track (Only at the track right...) you can open them up, or when you are cruising you can open them up for a little show, and for when the Ricer in the lane next to you tosses a few revs at you they come open and make them tuck tail and run.

If you do it right you can even make them part of the effect for your car. Here is a picture of mine on the 89 Vette.

The 76 has chambered exhaust with no mufflers so I don't need them on there. Anyway I am 39... I have even pulled up to the lignt with a cop next to me and tosses a rev, and asked them if they wanted to run them. They just laugh and we talk a bit til the light changes.

Tim

P.S. If you fill out your profile we can look and see where you are at. There might be a few guys around you with musical mufflers that you can listen to.

Yeah it's fun to have... Since this is an 89 and I am in the Dallas Texas area I have a pair of cats on it. But when I open up the dumps I have been told that I have NASCAR exhaust.

here with undercarriage 2 3/4'' exhaust and 40 delta force mufflers...maybe at the end of the biv you can hear the engine rebbing but it's not bery noticeable with this small camera from inside the car.

these two vids are with side hookers and open short mufflers...(somebody is saying 'VAI'..in italian means go away..it's my wife afraid to get back in after the first run
