What is the correct method and adjustment for Solid Lifters on my 427?
I see posts where you do this with the engine running? How do you stop the oil from getting all over?
Two easy ways.
An old set of valve covers will work great if you cut out the tops leaving only the sides...like a fence.
The other way is to cut a long strip of cardboard, about the same height as a valve cover, cut it and tape the ends together so it runs around the head like a fence.
As far as adjusting...I have never asjusted solid lifters, but here is how I have always done it.
With the engine running, make sure all are tightened enough to not clater. Then, start with a rocker. Loosen it until it starts to clatter, and then tighten it until the clatter stops. Then repeat this for every rocker. You can stop tightening when the clatter stops because the are solid, and these is no pre-load.

Don't set solids with the engine running - all you do is destroy your feeler guages. Set the lash with a warm engine to the specs recommended by the cam manufacturer for your cam. Lash specs will vary from tight-lash cams of around .015 to the more conventional .024-.028"
For specicic instructions, e-mail me for the solid lifter adjustment info sheet.

This is how I've done it in the past... But they still have some noise when I'm finished. Is this normal?
How often should I do them.... last time I did them was about 2000 or so miles ago....
This is a "While I'm in there" thing, so if there is no need for me to adjust them, I'm not going to, because the covers are already off and I don't want to make a mess running the engine just to get it warm enough to make adjustment.
