Default Octane Requirements

It is my understanding that starting 1971 engine compression levels were reduced to accept less octane to perform.

Question 1969 327ci can it run prpoerly on unlead 92?
Question 1969 427ci can it run propoerly on unlead 92?

Question 1971 327ci can it run properly on unlead 92?

Thanks

Run it on the lowest octane that doesn't ping. If you have a base model 327, 87 or 89 would likely be fine.

Yes, you're right! The last year for 327's was '68 and not '69.

In a Vette this is true.

69 Camaro had a 327 as the base V8 for the first few months of production untill they were discontinued - switched over to the 307's.

Hardened valve seats didn't appear until 70 - 71 did they?

That means that for normal street driving the unhardened valve seats will have a mostly respectable life, but if driven hard for extended periods they'll fail pretty quick.

There's never been a documented case on a street driven Corvette of this happening.
